| On Sunday May 16 2010 seven members of Red Knights Pennsylvania Chapter 2 traveled north to meet up with Pa. Chapter 17 for the second of scheduled rides this season in our quest to complete the Grand Tour series.
What is a Grand Tour you ask? A Grand Tour is what International uses for members to get out to other stations and promote the club. Members have five ways to do this, after completion of these rides they receive a patch and a rocker after submitting photos for proof that they visited the station (this does not have to be done in any specific order). On three rides members have to visit stations that spell out the words GRAND TOUR, FIREHOUSE, or RED KNIGHTS. One member's has to visit stations starting with every letter in the ALPHABET. The last way is to just visit TWELVE STATIONS.
Spelling the word FIREHOUSE was the focus of today's ride.
Pa. Chapter 2 members met at 8am at their meeting point Routes 100 & 113 in Lionville from their members traveled 100 to Pottstown.
Dan Miller, the organizer of the ride, was again overwhelmed by the outcome of knights from both chapters. All in all we ended up with 18 bikes and 23 people. Around 9:00 members of both chapters lined up for the official picture in front of Empire's ladder truck. The plan for the day was to go to nine fire station spelling out FIREHOUSE this was the order of the day- Empire, Upper Pottsgrove, Friedship, Earl, Oley, Hamburg, Independents, Port Clinton Hotel for Lunch, Reiffton, and last but not least Stonersville. The ride went off as planned most of the time being well ahead of schedule The day ended around 4pm at Stonersville and Chapter 2 members were back home by 530pm with their families.
We would like to thank President Grimm from chapter 17 for the invite and hospitality throughout the day. We would also like to thank Dan Miller for all the leg work that was done for this ride ( next time maybe he get directions right LOL). The over all mission of the grand tour was ones again met giving us all the opportunity to catch up with some old friends and show the spirit of the club.
Next scheduled ride is Sunday June 13th RED KNIGHTS we hope to see everyone there |
