By Pesident Frank Dowlin
June 14, 2010

On May 28th Quartermaster Ronald P. Scott made a trip across country, his trip lasted about 3 weeks or so his story is below.

May 28 2010 left for M/c trip across United States to California by way
of Lincoln Highway /Rt30 at 10:45am. 3 hours later I was just getting to
Gettysburg 70 miles. In Breezewood it started to rain. From then on, I wore my
rain gear 90 per cent of the entire M/C trip. 9 hours after I started my
trip, I was only 329 miles from home in Newville West Virginia. I had rain &
fog and all the little towns in between so I made a decision to get off
Lincoln Highway and take I 80 across the country or I was going to be weeks
before
I reached California.
May 29, I left the East Liverpool area of Ohio and traveled up I 11 to
Youngstown OH and I 80. Then to Peru IL 504 miles with hot sun.
May 30, Rode to Kearney NE 556 miles.
May 31, Rode through Wyoming and had hard wind all day and was hard to
keep M/C straight, I also got to Pocatello Idaho that day I 15, 655 miles for
the day.
June 1, I was taking a side trip up I 15 to Helena Montana to see
cousins, just before the state line between Idaho and Montana you could see this

LARGE BLACK cloud and white clouds above it for miles. At mile post 190 it was
like hitting a wall, temp went from 64 to 43 heavy rain and then pea size
hail on the road and ground was white. An accident had occurred just in front
of me mile marker 193. I pulled off the road and went to the car over the
embankment as the car rolled over on the right side, the driver was trying to
get out of driver's side door which was up in air. He stood up and said he
and his wife were ok, I said I will call 911 so back to M/C to make the
call. I decided it was not good to have M/C parked close to the accident so I
moved it up the road about 250 feet as other cars and trucks kept going by at
high speed. Cell phone did not work! Went back to accident and the man was
now on the ground. an nether car stopped with EMT Ryan Miles that was when we
found that there were 3 little girls in the back in seat belts and not
hurt. I opened the back door and inside were the 3 girls still with seat belts
on. Ryan checked them out not hurt. No cell phone service from all three of
us. Along comes Frank Shelf with "ONSTAR" which did the trick. Next I carried
two of the girls up the embankment to Ryan's station wagon and Frank
carried up the other girl. Mother and father walked up themselves. I found out
later that Frank was a Minister. Now the fun begins. 30-45 mins later a Deputy
Sheriff arrived and said because there were no injuries, no medical
assistance was coming from Idaho. Later he said Lima Fire Dept 17 miles up the
road in Montana would come and check it out. 15-20mins later Lima Ambulance and
forestry truck arrived and another Deputy Sheriff and Fire Chief Randy
Bernard of Lima. They would Deputy Sheriff and Tow truck would transport the
family to a Family Shelter. Tow truck was coming from 70 miles away. 1hour and
45 mins later, 2 snowplows were coming to plow the hail off the road way. As
I got to mile marker 196 the road was dry and I was in the State on
Montana. This all happen in just 6 miles. What a experience! Arrived in Helena,
MT
at 5:20pm 469 miles.
June 2nd & 3th, Was in Helena MT to visit cousins that I have never seen
or knew about till December of 2009. John Jay Parmer 78 is my grandfathers
great nephew. We had a family get together and they showed me around there
town beautiful scenery. My son Randy informed me that Past Fire Chief Glen
Davis of the City of Coatesville was an Assistant Fire Chief of Helena MT. So he

Davis got a big surprise when I walked into the Fire Chief Steve Larson's
office and said you can keep him I just wanted Assistant Davis to know you
can hide but you can be found.
June 4, Left Helena MT to Pocatello ID and took I 86 to Twin Falls and Rt
93 South to Jackpot Nevada and on to Wells NV and I 80 again. Rain off and
on all day 523 miles.
June 5, Off to California I 80 traveled through Reno NV into Sacramento
CA and into San Francisco CA arriving at 7:30pm at the end of Lincoln Highway
and I 80 under the bridge of CA highway 101 that takes you to the Golden
Gate Bridge 546 miles. I had stopped at a police station under the bridge to
ask some questions Officer Jason Gordon of the (CHP) did not know about the
Lincoln Highway marker so as I asked question about motel's and things, He
suggested I leave the area as this was not the best place to be at night and
with my kind of M/C it would be stripped or stolen. So I left and I forgot to
take pictures of my LAST STOP. ALL THAT WAY AND "NO PICTURES". I went back
to the Sacramento area for the night.
June 6, Left for Sparks NV to NV highway 50 to Utah 597 miles.
June 7, Continued on NV 50 known as the Loneliest road in America to
Salina UT and pickup I 70 to Grand Junction Colorado. 102 degrees today and 432
miles. Had dinner at Applebee's and two men setting next to me made a remark
about riding M/C. I ask them and they said they were going west on NV 50 I
told them about oil and shipping the road in one area and one of them asked
were I was from. I said PA and he said what town and I said Coatesville and
the other man looked at me and said he to was from Coatesville and I said
well I will be more specific and said East Fallowfield Twp and he said so am
I! Well I said you will answer the next question. I was born in Valley Twp
Old Coatesville Hospital and have lived in the East Fallowfield Twp my whole
life and YOU are not that and he said you are right. I built a new home 4
years ago in Provident Hill along West Chester Road and my name is Bob Hilton.
We both had a good laugh and the other man was from Limerick PA.
June 8 & 9, Left Grand Junction CO and rode to Monument Colorado to my
cousin Marilyn McLimans Perry home. 309 mile. stayed today's.
June 10, Left Monument CO to Salina KS 441 miles.
June 11, Left Salina KS and stopped at Russell KS to see retired Senator
Robert Dole (not home). Then to Abilene KS to see Dwight D Eisenhower
Presidential Library and Museum and then to St Louis Missouri and the Arch 529
miles.
June 12, Rain all day made stops along the way in Ohio, West Virginia the
last stop was the welcome center in Claysville PA I 70 to take a picture of
our state bear as I did not see any Moose, Bear, Dear along the way. 473
miles.
June 13, Left Washington PA for home got in at 12:50pm. Rain and hot
weather 264 miles.
Total miles 6,657, Total gals of gas 190.9/ 34.9miles per gal, 21 States.
The mileage on my M/C turn over 100,000 miles. This was a once in a life
time trip to see the Untied States. Beautiful scenery in every state. In
Colorado just off I 70 is Buffalo Bill's Gravesite as I was traveling up the
road I came across Foothills Fire & Rescue Lookout MT Station they were testing
fire hose so I stopped to take pictures as it turned out these men are all
from Drexel Hill PA working for Fire One. Another good laugh. Buffalo Bill
would come to Coatesville PA and use local barns in the area Illes barn
Wilmington Road and Park Ave East Fallowfield Twp and Davis farm Wilmington Road

just north of Sadsburyville PA in Sadsbury Twp. I tried to take a picture of
every fire station that sat along the highway or if there was a road marker
indicating that one was in the area. took 509 pictures.
