Friday November 22 2013 I had to travel to Frederick MD. On the way back I took the time to stop at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg MD. With the government shutdown October 5 2013 The Red Helmet Ride went from Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company MD to Wyndam Hotel Gettysburg PA. Here is the Memorial Plaque for 2012 and the others with year and names from Chester County. 2012: Chris "Goody" Good, Goodwill Fire Company No2 (Sta52) West Chester PA 2011: John J. Lackovic Jr., Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company (Sta68) Valley Forge PA 1988: Lawrence E. Greeley, Longwood Fire Company ( Sta25) Kennett Square PA 1997: William H. "POP" Winters, Atglen Fire Department (Sta26) Atglen PA 1998: David J. Good, Lionville Fire Company (Sta47) Lionville PA 1999: Wayne C. Yost, Cochranville Fire Company (Sta27) Cochranville PA 2001: September 11 2001 The last picture: To Lift a Nation The 9/11 National Memorial This three-times life-size statue sculpted by Stan Watts of Salt Lake City, Utah, recreates the now-famous photo taken by Thomas E. Franklin, a photographer for the Bergen Record, who captured the image on September 11, 2011. "The monument and its flag are symbols of hope and courage for a nation deeply impacted by this tragedy, " Watts said. "It honors a moment in the history of our country and reminds us of the bravery and sacrifice made by our firefighters and by thousands of citizens, from all walks of life, who selflessly serve humankind in times of need." |
