The day began at 7:15am from the Goodwill Fire Company No2. The next stop was the WAWA at Rt30 & 10 to meet up with the other riders including Pride Chester County. We arrived at Battlefield Harley-Davidson and met up with PA CHAPTERS 15 Harrisburg and 33 Lancaster. The next stop was Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company in MD. After several announcements from the International President Chris Gadway and Executive Secretary Bill "POPEYE" Snodgrass, a presentation was made to Tomy Baker for his 15 years of organizing The Red Helmet Ride.
This year the ride went to Wyndam Hotel Gettysburg, PA where the families were staying. 300 M/C made the ride up Rt15. At the Emmitsburg exit. The Emmitsburg Fire Department had a large American Flag hanging over the north bound lane. As the ride exited at the York Rd exit (Rt30) we pulled into the Wyndam Hotel the ride passed under a large American Flag held by Gettysburg Fire Department and Howard County Fire & Rescue Truck 7 with an Honor Guard. The families stood on both side of the roadway up to the main entrance. A wreath-laying ceremony and special presentation also took place.
Despite the government shutdown, the NFFF worked closely with FEMA and the United States Fire Administration to assure the families coming in from all over the country they would be able to visit the Memorial in Emmitsburg which bears the names of their loved ones.
After socializing with the families and friends we left for The Pike Restaurant & Lounge for a late lunch before leaving for home. |
