| Today 8 Pennsylvania Chapters of the Red Knights met up in Hamburg Pa. at Cabala's, today the group would be traveling to Shenandoah Pa. to the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society.
The group left Cabala's at 10am and took the short 30 mile ride up 61 to Shenandoah arriving there just before 11am. At Schuylkill Historical Fire Society we met up with the President of the museum Mike Kitsock, Mike took everyone into the basement of the museum which was a restored bar that was in the old station which the museum resides. In the bar beverage of curse was offered and some snacks, Mike gave us some history of the building, equipment and the operations of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society.
After that everyone took the next couple of hours looking around, one of the highlights of the day was when they took Secretary Shannon Dowlin from Pa.2 out to the street corner and had her pull the pull box, pull boxes are still active in Schuylkill County and are used just as they were back in the day. After Shannon pulled the box the siren blow and the ticker tape started ring out box 32 for Jardin and Oak, a minute or so later we found out it really worked when the local police arrived wanting to know who pulled the alarm, however Shannon was nowhere to be found.
After look around the museum we were taken to a storage garage where they had additional 50 or so pieces of apparatus.
All in all Everyone had a great day and everyone left for their respective areas around 2pm
Pa. Chapters in attendance were 2, 4, 6, 10, 12, 15, 18, 33 with I believe 28 total members in attendance
Pa. 2 would like to thank Brian Sames for putting this ride together, it was great to see everyone get together. |
